The region of Burgundy offers a wealth of leisure activities. The beautiful burgundian countryside is ideal for short walks, long hikes, bicycle rides (bike hire available in Veneray les Laumes) and horse riding. The lakes and reservoirs nearby, offer a full range of water sports or for a paddle, try the river at the bottom of Ecorsaint hill! Rock climbing, for specialists, is also possible across the valley in the village of Hauteroche (translates as 'high rocks'). Golfing facilities can be found either in Dijon or in the beautiful grounds of the Chateau de Chailly (35 mins drive) and also a 9 hole course at Précy-sous-Thil. There is also tennis available in Veneray, Montbard and Flavigny sur Ozerain.

Abbaye de Fontenay The abbey was founded by St Bernard and is a remarkably well preserved example of a 12th century Cistercian monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage site. As well as the abbey, there are the beautiful fountains from which the abbey takes its name. (20 min drive)

Alise Sainte Reine This famous fortified town was the scene of the Gauls last stand against Caesar. Take a walk up the hill to see the statue of Vercingétorix overlooking the valley below. The town offers a Roman archeological site, a museum, a restaurant 'Le Cheval Blanc' and a cafe. (10 min drive)

Dijon The capital of Burgundy is full of charm and history. Spend a day wandering around the 16th century streets or take the Owl's Trail around the city (the Office de Tourisme will start you on your way). Visit the Musee des Beaux-Arts or just pass the time away in one of the street cafes around the Place de la Liberation. (45 min drive)

Flavigny sur Ozerain This medieval village with its fortified gates sits on a rock isolated by 3 streams. It's ancient, narrow streets are full of religious and architectural heritage. Flavigny is famous for the production of its well known aniseed sweets. End up at La Grange to be fed by local farmers with produce from their gardens and farms (open 1 July - 31 August). Flavigny is more recently famed as the setting for the film "Chocolat". It is possible to walk to Flavigny from Ecorsaint in 1.5 hours or, alternatively, it's a 5 minute drive.

Semur en Auxois An impressive and attractive medieval town with ramparts, cobbled streets, shops, cafes and restaurants. Take the town walk (visit the office de tourisme for details) to discover the history of the town (15 min drive). Drive out a further 10 minutes to the Lac de Pont or the Chateau at Epoisses.

Wine tasting The famous city of Beaune offers wine tasting and is a beautiful place to explore - don't miss the world famous Hôtel-Dieu. The vineyards themselves are just under an hour away both to the north and south. Details of all local restaurants and vineyards are held at the house.
